Erica Schafer
Erica Schafer grew up in Paw Paw, MI and graduated from the Lyman Briggs College at Michigan State University in 2022 with a B.S. in Genomics/Molecular Genetics and Human Biology with a minor in Bioethics. During undergrad, she volunteered as a medical crisis advocate at the MSU Center for Survivors and supported sexual assault survivors with in-person, hotline, & crisis chat counseling and resources. She also worked as a certified nursing assistant providing bedside medical care to patients in a long-term care and rehabilitation facility. After graduating, she worked for two years as a Genetic Counseling Assistant at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. She assisted the Pediatric Genetics Clinic, in addition to the Lysosomal Storage Disease, Metabolic, Cystic Fibrosis, and Pediatric Oncology clinics. In this role, she was able to further her knowledge regarding genetic testing, insurance, and the genetic counseling profession. In her free time, Erica loves to read, travel, cook/bake, and spend time on the lake with friends, family, & goldendoodle Lila.
