Jaclyn Melasi
Jaclyn Melasi grew up in Washington, MI and graduated from Michigan State University with a B.S in Genomics & Molecular Genetics, a B.S. in Neuroscience, and a minor in Bioethics in 2023. In undergrad, she volunteered at MSU Safe Place, providing support for survivors of domestic violence. She also gained research experience in her areas of interest by working in the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics as well as the Department of Horticulture. In the former, she investigated the effects of aging and Alzheimer's disease on the brain. In the latter, she utilized bioinformatics to develop and analyze pangenomes for agriculturally important crops. After graduation, she spent a year as a Clinical Research Assistant at Michigan Medicine studying telehealth interventions for alcohol and substance use. To learn more about the genetic counseling profession, she had informational interviews and shadowed genetic counselors, watched genetic counseling videos, and listened to genetics podcasts. In her free time, Jaclyn enjoys reading science-fiction and fantasy books, watching bad reality TV, and spending time with her cats.
