Vascular Biology

The vascular system is essential for nutrient, oxygen, and hormone transport and its dysfunction results in cardiovascular disease. Topics researched by Center faculty include the regulatory networks of micro-RNAs that control the growth and function of vascular endothelial cells, the development of neovascularization-based therapeutic strategies for tissue repair and regeneration, and molecular mechanisms of the cytoskeleton in smooth muscle function during vascular development and vascular diseases, and functional genomic characterization of the response to environmental perturbations in vascular endothelial and smooth muscle cells.
