Diabetes
Diabetes is an epidemic that affects an increasing number of people world wide. Understanding the underlying metabolic changes is an important goal in diabetes research because it will allow improved targeted treatment of the disease in the future. Focus areas of Center faculty members are molecular mechanisms and pathophysiological roles of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response and inflammation in fatty liver disease and type-2 diabetes, as well as focused studies of the role of specific genes linked to obesity and diabetes.
