Going into research was not on my initial radar. However, I am grateful for the opportunities I encountered throughout my undergraduate studies at Michigan State (Go Green!). I was part of a maize research lab where my research area focused on quantitative genetics. My project involved investigating candidate genes that used traits such as chlorophyll content to further the understanding of nitrogen response mechanisms in maize. I gained experience in data recording and analysis in R Studio. I enjoyed every aspect of research, especially in understanding the complexity of genetics. It is interesting how everyone’s genetics, a combination of shared and unique features, respond to the environment and its challenges. Now, I want to expand my knowledge by doing biomedical research. I joined the CMMG program because I believe in achieving my goals through its diverse and knowledgeable environment. My primary research interests include computational biology and disease therapies.
