After receiving my bachelor’s degree, I attended a Medical Laboratory Science training program through Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, where I trained in all aspects of the clinical laboratory including a genetic testing core. Since then, I have been interested in the role genetic testing can play in patient care. I soon transitioned into research where I worked at Wayne State under Dr. Heather Gibson, while also receiving my M.S. degree through Northern Michigan University. The research focused on genetic regulation of response to immunotherapy in cancers such as melanoma and colon cancer, while the master’s degree focused on the technology and applications of genetics in the clinical hospital laboratory. My experience with both genetics in research and in the clinic is why I have joined the CMMG program, with a desire to gain an advanced understanding and skillset that can be applicable in both a clinical and academic setting.
