- Currently a first-year student in MGG PhD program
I received my Bachelor's in Biochemistry from the University of Windsor. My undergraduate research focused on the promoter activity of a natural antisense transcript found in the parasite Toxoplasma gondii. I enjoyed the research process, and it motivated me to continue with further lab work. I went on to complete my master's in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Wayne State University. During this time, my research focused on the mitochondria and Cytochrome c Oxidase dysfunction in the Cohen rat model, a type 2 diabetes model. Through this work, I learned numerous lab techniques, but I wanted to expand my knowledge about genetics and different lab techniques. I joined the CMMG because of the wide depth of research happening here, particularly the translatability of the research. My current research interests include disease progression and exploring potential therapies.
