My first involvement with research was towards the end of my freshman year when I joined a Drosophila lab investigating the mechanisms behind the centromere. It was the exposure to advanced imaging and molecular tools that initially sparked my interest in scientific work. During the pandemic over my sophomore year, I transitioned to a computational project, which introduced me to bioinformatics. My interest in bioinformatics led me to join a Bayesian-omics lab during my senior year where I worked on developing a computational method for a problem I encountered in the wet lab. This experience sparked my interest in developing computational methods for genomic applications.
I joined CMMG to continue this trajectory, focusing on method development for biological problems. Given the emphasis on rigorous methodology and its strong integration with experimental biology, CMMG offers a great PhD training environment to advance my work in computational method development and its application to real-world biological questions.
