Zakiyah Muhammad

Zakiyah graduated cum laude from the illustrious Xavier University of Louisiana with a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Chemistry in 2025. As an undergraduate student, Zakiyah found numerous ways to be an advocate on campus and in the greater New Orleans area. She was a member of the XULA Chapter of the Nation Council of Negro Women, in which she was able to serve as an advocate for the population of Black women in the area. Additionally, she served in various voluntary positions as a peer mentor and food injustice advocate. To gain crisis counseling experience, Zakiyah completed an internship in Madrid, Spain where she served as co-therapist under the guidance of licensed mental health counselors and graduate students. Zakiyah knew that she always wanted to serve as an advocate in the healthcare system, but her desire to do so through being a genetic counselor was solidified when she interviewed several genetic counselors and shadowed within their clinics. In her free time, Zakiyah enjoys reading novels, listening to music, and dancing.
