Madeline Mackezyk

Madeline grew up in Clinton Township, MI and graduated from Michigan State University in December 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Genomics and Molecular Genetics and a minor in Bioethics. During undergrad, she volunteered at an addiction epigenetics lab within MSU’s Department of Psychology, doing participant genetic testing intake. Following graduation, Madeline developed her healthcare skills by working in an emergency department as a patient registrar. She then moved to a research study coordinator role at Henry Ford Health where she worked on multiple cardiology genetics and heart failure studies. She was responsible for screening patients and assisting in the consent and sample collection process for genetic testing. Along with her professional experiences, Madeline gained advocacy experience by volunteering as a clinic escort at a women’s health clinic. She also completed an online counseling course to hone her psychosocial skills. To get insight into the genetic counseling career, Madeline had informational interviews with genetic counselors, shadowed genetic counselors in clinic, and watched podcasts and videos online. In her free time, she enjoys baking, going on walks, and spending time with friends, family, and her cats, Phineas and Ferb.
