Kenneth Brooks

Kenny (he/him) is from Commerce Twp, Michigan and graduated in 2019 from Oakland University with his Bachelor of Arts in Biology. Post-graduation Kenny found himself first as a pharmacy technician, with his most recent career being within veterinary medicine. He spent five years working in the emergency department of a veterinary hospital where he gained valuable interpersonal skills. Today, he works part-time at a general practice and urgent care veterinary clinic. While working in the field he discovered his passion for being present and helping individuals through tough situations. After learning more about genetic counseling, he realized the mix of biology and psychology was right up his alley. To further his passion for helping others as well as to gain advocacy experience, he volunteered as a crisis counselor for both the Crisis Text Line and Trevor Project. To ensure genetic counseling was a right fit, he shadowed a few genetic counselors in clinic as well as held informational interviews and stayed up to date on recent topics by watching Ted Talks, reading genetic blogs or listening to podcasts. In his free time, Kenny loves to bake or cook and try new foods. He also enjoys hanging out with family and friends. He also loves to see the world by adventuring out into nature (especially for the animals).
