Asifa graduated from the University of Toronto in 2020 with an Honours Bachelor’s of Science, majoring in Health and Disease and minoring in Psychology and Biology. As an undergraduate, Asifa and her team were finalists in Amazon Web Services’ Cloudy Day Challenge where they developed an A.I based app to share stories from local immigrants. Asifa volunteered for a laboratory genetic counsellor at Mount Sinai Hospital and shadowed a genetic counsellor in Toronto General Hospital’s Hereditary Poly-Cystic Kidney Disease clinic. She also volunteered at Sunnybrook Hospital’s cancer genetics clinic where she later worked as a genetic’s assistant after graduation. Asifa gained advocacy experience by serving as a telephone responder for the Toronto Distress Centre and Canada Suicide Prevention Services. She is currently a member of the Pakistani Society of Medical Genetics and a patient advocate associate at the Rare Genomics Institute. In her free time, Asifa enjoys trying new restaurants, watching Netflix, and visiting cottages.
